July 2024

Hello Neighbor!

Happy Fourth of July! This time of year is always a special one. When my kids were little it marked the height of the summer. We enjoyed being outside, spending time with family and friends, being on a more relaxed schedule, and enjoying all the sounds, sights, and tastes of the season! Many of our best memories occurred around the 4th of July.

Even though my kids are grown, I get to experience many of the same wonderful aspects of the season. I enjoy participating in community events, seeing so many people enjoying themselves in wonderful public spaces that we all share. I love talking one-on-one with constituents and learning even more about the great place we all call home. It is one of the many things I enjoy about this job.

I will be sharing some highlights from the last session in an upcoming town hall, as well as hosting coffees around the district so that I can spend a little more time talking with people who have more questions or want to get more involved in government. This summer we also have some wonderful young people working in the office! They bring energy and fresh ideas which can only improve the work we do.  I hope to see you soon around town, or at a scheduled event.

Sincerely,  Suzanne

DISTRICT UPDATES

Mobile Museum of Tolerance

I am honored to welcome the Mobile Museum of Tolerance (MMOT) to the central part of my district.  The MMOT will be at the Fox River Valley Public Library on Monday, July 29th and Tuesday, July 30th from Noon – 7:00pm.

Developed in collaboration with the Midwest office of the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Illinois State Board of Education, the Mobile Museum of Tolerance is a free, traveling museum and classroom. Led by an Illinois licensed educator, it aims to inspire people to use their voices to speak up against anti-Semitism, bullying, racism, intolerance, and hate.

In conjunction with the MMOT tour, Sarah Sullivan, instructor of History and Business at McHenry County College will be presenting Beyond Rosa: The Women of the Montgomery Bus Boycott, at the Dundee Adult Activities Center (665 Barrington Avenue) adjacent to the library on Monday July 29th at 1:00pm.  What you think you know about the Montgomery Bus Boycott is incomplete; women do not often show up in Civil Rights history, but women planned, coordinated and implemented one of history’s most successful boycotts.  The backstory of this boycott is fascinating and will change your understanding of history.

The Mobile Museum of Tolerance and presentation on the Montgomery Boycott are free and open to the public.

Elgin’s Recognition as one of the safest and most affordable cities in the nation

I am proud to represent a city that GoBankingRates has recognized as one of the top 50 safest and most affordable cities in the United States. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the residents, city officials, and the Elgin Police Department who have created a community where safety and affordability are paramount. Elgin stands as a shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together to support one another. I am honored to serve the Elgin community and will continue to strive for the prosperity and well-being of our beloved city.

Habitat for Humanity of
Northern Fox Valley in Carpentersville

I am thrilled to witness the progress in Carpentersville as Habitat for Humanity of Northern Fox Valley will begin an inspiring project to construct a 28-home subdivision. This initiative is particularly close to my heart as it aligns with our commitment to environmental stewardship. Notably, 13 of these homes are designed to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, setting a benchmark for sustainable living in our community. It’s developments like these that not only enhance our cityscape but also preserve the health of our planet for future generations. I am eager to see this eco-friendly vision come to life, further cementing Carpentersville’s reputation as a forward-thinking and responsible community.

Meet Nona & Twizzler
(bonded mom & son)

Nona is a true cuddler and loves to sit on your lap and get a good snuggle in while watching your favorite tv show. She loves watching the birds through a window and will monitor the neighborhood for hours. She is friendly to all humans big and small and would be great with kids. She herself is a wonderful momma who is quite bonded to her adult son Twizzler. Twizzler is an affectionate boy who loves to flop over for belly rubs!  Twizzler would love a window where he can watch the birds and outside bustle from a safe vantage point.  He is quite attached to his momma, Nona, and they can often be found sleeping together or playing. We are seeking a forever home where they can remain together. Twizzler is not a fan of dogs or other cats (his momma is the exception). We are seeking a forever home where they can remain together.
