Hosted by: State Senator Don DeWitte, Representative Dan Ugaste and Representative Suzanne Ness with guest speakers from the Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) and Department of Insurance
About: Due to COVID-19, the federal government has opened a Special Enrollment Period (SEC) for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Health Insurance Marketplace through May 15. Senator DeWitte, Representative Dan Ugaste and Representative Suzanne Ness invite all Illinoisans who need health insurance to participate in their free virtual event. The April 8 event is also open to existing ACA enrollees who would like to change plans within the ACA Marketplace.
The virtual event will feature representatives of the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) and the Illinois Department of Insurance, who will discuss the special enrollment period of the ACA Marketplace and provide information about the new SEP, including eligibility for the Medicaid program and how to enroll. Unlike other SEPs, those who enroll for ACA health insurance between now and May 15 will not have to show documentation of a qualifying life event.
DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS WILL DISCUSS:
• The special enrollment period of the ACA Health Insurance Marketplace in response to COVID-19.
• Information about the new SEP, including eligibility for the Medicaid program and how to sign up.
